UP CYCLE

Hello and welcome to my blog!

Its a new month and a new challenge over at the Mixed Up Blog Challenge.
This months theme is Up-Cycle and I decided to transform an old wooden ashtray, which I salvaged from my Mum and Dad's charity box. It has served its purpose as an ashtray for many years, as it always came out for guests that smoked.

I wanted to give it a different purpose so I removed its inner metal part and sanded it the best I could to get a smooth finish. I then painted the whole wooden bowl with Pebeo black gesso, that gave it a matt look. To bring out the carved floral detail I used silver and gold gliding wax.

I love how this turned out and really like the silver and gold against the black.
It sits nicely on top of my dresser and now holds my costume jewellery.

I hope you enjoyed this months upcycle challenge inspiration and hope you'll join in the fun. Check out the rest of the teams upcycled projects over at the Mixed Up Challenge Blog. Join in and show us your makes to win prizes.

Bold Colours

Hello everyone and welcome back !

This months Challenge is Bold Colours. I have created a heart tag using Tim Holtz distress crayons. I picked three colours for the base(mermaid lagoon- peacock feathers-mustard seed) applied them to the tag and blended the colours together. Then using a stencil I rubbed some of the colour off with a damp baby wipe this added interest to the background.

For my focal image I stamped the dragonfly twice from the All and Create stamp set by Tracy Evans. I coloured the wings with the raspberry distress crayons and added some mermaid lagoon distress crayon to its body.

Fussy cut the dragonflies and then  added some sparkle with clear sparkle pens. I adhered one dragon fly to the tag and added some cotton thread underneath it. Then I glued the second one directly on top but only in the middle so it’s wings are free. Shaped the wings to give it dimension. I added sparkle splatters and some words to finish it off.

I think the bold background sets off the dragonfly beautifully and makes it an eye catching tag on a special gift.

Mixed Up Blog Challenge For May- TEXTURES

Hello! Welcome to my happy place.

My name is Rizwana and I have been a crafter for over 15 years. I have always loved creating things like cushions, curtains, outfits, paper crafting and recently mixed media. I think mixed media is definitely my happy place at present, it lets me experiment with different products and techniques and best of all there are no rules. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to be part of the Mixed Up Blog Challenge Team.

This months Mixed Up Blog Challenge Theme is Textures which is one of my favourites. I have created a small notebook with lots of textures on the cover. From using scrunched up decoupage paper to paints and modelling paste it gives it depth and interest.

Here is a close up.

I have added embroidery wire to a mount-board tag, sequins and ribbons which also give the tag a tactile feel.

Check out the Mixed Up Challenge blog post to see my fellow teamies texture projects for more inspiration.
We want you to create and share your texture project with us - you could win a prize. Check out the details here:

Hope you are inspired by my texture project and it encourages you to have a go.

Thanks for stopping by.

Textured Tag

Hello! Welcome to my blog.

Today I'm sharing a tag I made using Tim Holtz Distress Crayons. I haven't used these in a while and had forgotten you can create really fun backgrounds with them. I used cream card stock and layered the colours blending them using my fingers. Sometimes if the colour doesn't blend easily with your finger try using a damp finger the colours blend beautifully.

Then to add interest in the background I placed a stencil on top and using a baby wipe just dabbed through the stencil, this took some of the colour off. Added some more colour using the crayons and blended them. I then added some glitter paste through another stencil to give it more texture and sparkle. Once dry I matted it onto a cream tag and added ribbon.

I really like the vibrant colours and textures on this tag.
Thank you for stopping by and hope you have a wonderful day.
