October Elemental Challenge-Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

Its the first Friday of the month which means its the October Elemental Inspirational Challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog. Shabneez is the host for this weeks challenge her mood board has quiet an eclectic mix of elements! There's lots to choose from like the colours, blue sky, flowers, grass, tortoise, turtle shell and textures!

All you have to do is pick 3 elements for your card and remember colours count as one element. I hope you enjoy creating with months mood board and if you'd like some more inspiration, don't forget to check out the rest of the design teams creations.

I chose flowers, colours, textures and rectangle blocks. I have used a woodware stamp for my focal image which is coloured with alcohol markers. I added textures on the coloured blocks using embossing folders and doodle a frame around the stamped image.
I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I wish you all a very happy weekend. Check out all the inspiration from the DT over on the Daring Cardmakers blog;

Under and Over, repeat... -Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

This week we have a brand new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog and its set by DT member Kathy. The challenge is called;

Under and Over, repeat..

 This one is all about weaving! You could do some actual weaving with paper strips or yarn...
or use a stamp or embossing folder with a woven patters...
or add some woven fabric...
There are lots of possibilities and I can't wait to see what you will make!

For my card I decided to draw a weave pattern for the background using a fine liner pen. This was fun to do and quiet therapeutic. I added some images to a tag which I have cut from paper napkins. This napkin technique is pretty cool as you can make the image sturdy. You can do this by sandwiching the 1ply napkin image, cling film and some card and placing it between two pieces of baking parchment and then ironing them using a hot iron no steam. This makes the cling film fuse together the napkin image to the card as it melts. Make sure you have a enough parchment so you can protect your iron from anything sticking to it. I hope you will give this technique a try and let me know if you enjoyed using your napkins for cards or other crafts.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Thank you so much for stopping by and I wish you all a very happy weekend. Check out all the inspiration from the DT over on the Daring Cardmakers blog;

Always Autumn Forever Fall- Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

Wow we are nearly at the end of September! All the days, weeks and months seem to be rolled into one. Its been super busy these past couple of weeks with the kids back at school and older one back at university. The days are getting shorter and there's a fresh chill in the air as the warmer weather seems to be drifting away. We have had rain continuously this past week and lots of trees have started to change colour. I always associate September with the start of the Autumn season.

This weeks challenge is set by DT member Dawn which is also all about  Autumn, she says;

"I love this time of year as the season changes and all the months that end in "BER".  The colours are just beautiful and I love to get all cosy at home.  So this week I would like to see your cosy autumn inspired projects.

Always Autumn/Forever Fall

My card for this challenge has been created using patterned papers which were perfect with all the autumn coloured leaves. I don't really know what this style of card is called but it was super fun to create and pretty easy too. I trimmed the front of the card and added the papers to the front and a panel on the inside of the card. I used the same strip I had taken off the front to create a flap that just comes around and sits on the front half of the card. I added a sentiment and a wooden leaf embellishment to the front of the flap. Its a simple but effective card.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Take A Break-Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

Today we have a brand new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog. This weeks challenge is set by Miri and its called:

TAKE A BREAK

Miri says, 'I guess that most of us are back to everyday life after summer. And now let's not forget to take breaks regularly. Show us on your card what "taking a break" means for you: a cup of tea/coffee, a nap, a walk in nature, taking a sun bath, crafting etc.'

For me taking a break means having some time out to do some crafting. Recently I have been enjoying the art of doodling. This can be anything really but I do love to doodle pretty patterns and botanical drawings. I love the process of just taking your time and drawing things slowly and letting your mind wander freely. Usually I just doodle on a two inch square piece of card using a fine liner pen and then adding them to my sketchbook. Five or ten minutes of mindful doodling is really good for your mind and soul. Doodling on a smaller piece of card helps you to create something quicker and there isn't that overwhelm of a large space to cover. Sometimes I'll get adventurous and create larger pieces and then use watercolours to colour them in.

For my card this week I have created this doodle leaf drawing using Nova Fineliners and Nova watercolours.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Collage It - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and Happy Friday!

Wow its been a while since I've posted anything on the blog and I can't get over the fact that its September already! It's been an extremely busy 6 weeks and now everything seems like a blur. We started off with my middle sons graduation which was just amazing as he gained a first class honours degree and made us super proud. August is always the busiest month with non-stop birthday celebrations and wedding anniversaries. Then just recently we had more good news as my youngest passed his GCSE's. So proud of them both.

Today I'm hosting this weeks Daring Cardmakers Challenge and its called:

COLLAGE IT!

 I would love to see your cards using collage techniques.

You can use anything from magazine cut outs, patterned papers, bits of fabric or anything you have in your stash that
you can use as collage.
Have fun!!

For my card I created two watercolour backgrounds and added some marks using the same colours. I also used a butterfly napkin and separated the top layer, so I was left with a fine transparent layer. All these were then torn into strips along with some dictionary pages and some tissue paper. They were then arranged onto my card and adhered once I was happy with the way they looked. I added some marks and words around the edges. Then to finish it off I placed some sticker words under each butterfly.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Bon Voyage - Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

This week I'm hosting a brand new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog and it's called;

BON VOYAGE

A lot of people are getting ready to go on holiday either abroad or at home as the schools close for the summer. I would like you to create a fun travel card to wish someone happy holidays.

I have created a card using the Bon Voyage papers by DRK Crafts and dies by Tonic. This has been really fun to create as I love the papers in this paper pad. I used a few co-ordinating colours and created a background in different layers. I then used the dies to create the suitcase and tag. Once I had attached the suitcase to the card I added some small destination labels to the front. I used a Fiskars punch to create the small banners and finished it with a small plane die cut.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

July Elemental Inspirational Challenge.

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

Its the first Friday of the month which means its the July Elemental Inspirational Challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog. I am your host for this weeks challenge. I have chosen a mood board full of vibrant summery colours, ice lollies, cool drinks, beautiful flowers and lots more. All you have to do is pick 3 elements for your card and remember colours count as one element. I hope you enjoy creating with months mood board and if you'd like some more inspiration, don't forget to check out the rest of the design teams creations.

For my card I have chosen flowers, colours, butterflies and textures. Lately I have been using watercolours a lot in my projects and have really enjoyed playing with them and love the effects I can get. For my card I have used a Woodware stamp called Circle Flowers, which I stamped onto watercolour card. Then I applied Nova watercolours to colour the image and the background.

     Once dry I created a border around my image with a fine liner pen and stamped the sentiment in black ink. To finish it off I've added some butterflies using similar colours.

 I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Garden Bugs- Daring Cardmakers challenge.

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

We have a brand new challenge for you this week and its all about:

GARDEN BUGS

This weeks challenge is set by DT member Shabneez and she would like to see which garden bugs visit your garden during this time of year.

I don't have a garden as such but I do have plant pots with lots of flowers and herbs and I get some bug visits occasionally but none that I am friends with as they always give me the heebie-jeebies. On the other hand I do love butterflies, dragonflies and ladybirds, so I decided to choose one of my favourites for this challenge.

For my card this week I have used stamps by Daisy B Stamps (Botanical Dragonflies). I used the smaller dragonfly to create a background using Versafine Claire ink pads in Warm Breeze and Verdant. I then stamped the larger dragonfly using the same ink pads. I used the lighter colour on the wings and the darker one for the body. I then used metallic watercolour paints to colour in some of the wings and the main body.

To make the background look subtle I used some vellum around the front. Then I mounted it on to some glitter card and my base card. Once that was in place, I cut out the larger dragonfly and positioned that on top of the vellum. Finally, I added a sentiment and added some final touches of shimmer.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Everything's Coming Up Roses- DCM

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful sunny weather and spending time out doors or in your garden. This weeks challenge is set by DT member Joanne and its  all about Roses.

                             Everything's Coming up Roses

Joanne says, " As roses are one of the two birth flowers for June, this week we’d like to see roses somewhere on your project. If you’re not in the mood for flowers there’s another way to play; Yellow roses symbolise friendship so include yellow in your colour palette with any image or technique you like as a nod to crafty friendships.
Extra brownie points if you manage both and show us yellow roses!"

Lately I have been experimenting with watercolours and fine liners. This has been very different from my usual stamping and paper crafting. I'm really enjoying the process of just doodling simple flowers and leaves. So for my card this week I decided to doodle some simple roses using the Nova fine liners onto watercolour card and then painting them with the Nova watercolours both available from DRK crafts. Once I had finished painting the roses, I added some splatters using the same colours. I mounted the watercolour card onto some yellow card before adhering it to the main card. I'm hoping to earn brownie points for using roses and the colour yellow 😊.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Seashells On The Seashore

Hello and happy Friday!

Welcome back to my blog for another new challenge. I am your host for this weeks challenge and its called:

 Seashells on the Seashore

I would like you to create a card with seashells. Use images, dies, stamps or even real seashells on your cards this week. You can even draw or doodle your own seashells. Have fun creating !!

As a child I remember going to the beach with my family and I always loved collecting seashells on the beach. I was fascinated by all the beautiful patterns and textures they had. So this weeks challenge is inspired by seashells I collected as a child.

So for my card I decided to incorporate real shells. I have kept it clean and simple by using natural colours for the background and textured card. Then simply placing my chosen shells and adhering them into position. I finished it off by adding a small tag with a sentiment.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Sunshine- Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

Oh my goodness we are nearly at the end of May!!! I can't believe my last post was in March. Those of you who do take the time to pop in and read my blog apologies for not being here these past two months. Life has been a bit hectic here hence the reason for neglecting my blog! So I'm here today to spread some Sunshine and happiness with this weeks Sunshine challenge by Miri. She says;

SUNSHINE

Put a sun, bright yellow circles or sun rays on your card. It might be a sun as a focal point or in the background or as part of a scene.

So dig out your dies, stamps etc. and send some sunshine into the world!

(And after your crafty session go outside and enjoy some sunshine!)

For my card this week I have created sunrays using a stencil and distress oxides. I coloured in two cute images from Aallandcreate by Janet Klein. The images were then adhered to the background and then mounted onto card. To finish it off I added a sentiment also by Janet Klein (Everyday sentiments #666).

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Number It- Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

This week we are back with another new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog. This weeks challenge is set by DT member Shabneez and she says;

'This week, I'd very much like to see how you use numbers on your cards.  I think the cards I make the most have numbers on them!

NUMBER IT!
Create a card using numbers either in the background or for a special birthday or anniversary.'

  Another chance to take out this cool stamp set by Jo Firth Young (JOFY44). Love the robots in this set but this time instead of using just one character I decided to use all three. Normally I use alcohol markers for colouring my images but today I'm using colouring pencils. I created a small background panel and used oxides to create a mixed watercolour effect. Once dried I used one of the stamps to create a pattern on the background. Then using the nuts and bolts stamp I created a border top and bottom of the card base which I coloured in using a silver metallic pen. Then I adhered the coloured robot panel onto some black card stock and used the silver metallic pen to add some highlights. Finally I die cut the number 16 and stamped a happy birthday sentiment and arranged them to the front of the card. Number card complete yay!

Beautiful Buzzing Bees- Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and Happy Friday!

This week I'm hosting a brand new challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog. This week its all about the bees.

Beautiful Buzzing Bees

Create a card, a tag, a box or a gift bag with bees in mind. You can use anything related to bees like honey, honeycomb, bee hives and of course some lovely buzzing bees.

I have been going through my stamp stash and came across this Honeybee stamp set #330 by Aallandcreate, designed by Tracy Evans. Its been a while since I used it last and thought this would fit the challenge perfectly. I began by creating an inky background using distress oxides and stamping the honeycomb stamp. I stamped and coloured the beehive and the small bee from the Little Critters set #436. After cutting them out, I glued the bee to the front of the beehive. I mounted the background onto some black cardstock and added a piece of lace down the centre. After adhering the background to the base card I added a couple of strips of black card towards the bottom. Then I placed the beehive on top using foam pads. To finish off my card I added the words 'Protect Bees' which are on the beehive itself in case your wondering.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

Little One(s)-Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and happy Friday!

Welcome back for another Daring Cardmakers Challenge. This weeks challenge has been set by Miri and its called;

Little One(s)

Make a card for the little people in your life or think small in a different way and use tiny little letters, sentiments or images on your card!

For this challenge I have used monster stamps by Art Inspirations designed by Mr Barghest. I stamped the cute little monster onto watercolour card and used watercolours to colour the image. Most of the sentiment stamps are also from the same set, apart from the Happy Birthday stamp which is by Elizabeth Craft designs. I wanted to keep it simple so I framed the image with doodle lines and stars. Once I had finished the main image I created a colourful background using watercolour paints and mounted them both onto a card base.

Spots and Stripes- Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

 I've been missing from blog land for a couple of weeks as I've had a whole household off with the flu including myself. It's taken a few weeks to shake off and recover fully. This past week my mum and dad have been poorly too which led my mum to be in hospital. Thankfully all is well and both now recovering slowly.

So this week even though I had my card ready for the challenge I'm a little late posting it on here. This week we have a Spots and Stripes challenge which I really enjoyed.

For my card I have used Anna Marie Designs patterned papers and sentiments. I love these papers they go so well together. I created spots and stripe banners to go across the card and glued them into place with the sentiment topper. This card is a quick to create for those last minute birthdays.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog. Thank you so much for stopping by and I wish you all a very happy weekend. Check out all the inspiration from the DT over on the Daring Cardmakers blog;

Waxing Lyrical- Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and happy Friday everyone!

Welcome back to my blog for another new Daring Cardmakers Challenge. This weeks challenge is set by Joanne and its called;

WAXING LYRICAL

Joanne says:

'I'd love to find a way to incorporate Wax into your project, it might be figuratively, perhaps an image of candles or literally e.g. use a wax crayon or candle to create a resist, try out a technique with wax paper, or get out the encaustic wax and iron if you have them'.

Ooooh I do love this challenge as there's so many things you could do to incorporate wax into your creations. So for my card I decided to use a white wax crayon on water colour cardstock. I started off by drawing some bunting shapes and some dots onto my card. To get good results I sharpened the crayon a little. Once I was happy with the results I went over the whole card with water colour  paints. I love how this turned out and I think I'll be experimenting more using this technique. I recently bought the most cutest of stamps by Kate Crane its one of the mini series, this one is called 'Birthday Cake'. I stamped the image and coloured it in using water colour paints, before adhering it to the main card using foam pads. I added some finishing touches using a glitter pen.

All Loved Up- Daring Cardmakers Challenge

 Hello and welcome back to my blog!

We are nearly in the middle of February which usually means Valentines Day is just around the corner. Have you created your valentine cards?  Don't worry if you haven't you can find lots of inspiration on the Daring Cardmakers Blog. This weeks challenge is set by DT member Dawn and its called;

  ALL LOVED UP

So for this weeks Valentine's Day challenge it's just got to be all hearts and flowers.  Please share your romantic makes with us and spread the love.

To create my card this week I found an old 6x6 paper pad by My Minds Eye. I still love these papers and the colours, it has light peachy pinks to soft shades of red. I used a polka dot one for the background and chose three different papers for my hearts, which I layered on top of one another after die cutting them. I glued them in place and then added a piece of vellum which just wrapped around the hearts giving them a subtle look. To finish it off I added the word love and a sparkly gem.

February 2023 Elemental Inspirational Challenge

   Hello and welcome back to my blog!

Its the first Friday of the month, which means its the February Elemental Inspirational challenge. This months mood board is set by DT member Nat and it's full of inspirational elements that have a fresh spring like feel. To join in all you need to do is to choose 3 elements for your card. Remember colours count as one element.

For my card I chose knitted textures, hearts, pastel colours and words. I love pastel colours but find them difficult to photograph especially when you have a dark and over cast day and very minimal light. I decided to have a knitted background as I love how the cream brings out the subtle pastel shades of the hearts. The hearts have been created by using a heart punch by Fiskars. I also cut some cream card to create a shadow effect around the hearts to make them stand out a little on the knitted background. To finish it off I added a sentiment.

Viva Magenta- Daring Cardmakers Challenge

Hello and welcome back to my blog!

 It's my turn to host this weeks challenge over on the Daring Cardmakers blog. I have decided to do a colour themed challenge and it's called:

                             Viva Magenta

The Pantone Colour of the year is Viva Magenta.
“This rich and exuberant colour promotes joy and optimism.”
I’d like you to use lots of magenta, or hints of it when you create your card. There’s lots of inspiration in the natural world. Check out this mood board to see just a little.

I usually like blues and greens and always struggle with pinks and purples. So when Pantone announced Viva Magenta as this years colour of the year I thought I'd set myself a challenge to try and work with it. Are you like me and find Magenta, Pinks, Reds or Purples a bit of a challenge to use in your creations? If so I hope you'll join in this weeks challenge.

I have created a card using papers from Mariposa Moments by Tonic Studios. I decided to keep my card pretty simple by layering the patterned paper onto some plain magenta card and creating a pocket for my tag. I like how this card turned out and I think I'll try using this colour more this year.

I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.

New Year - New Crafty Things - Daring Cardmakers challenge

 Hello and Happy Friday!

Welcome back to another Daring Cardmakers Challenge. This weeks challenge is called;

New Year - New Crafty Things.

Miri wants you to start the New Year by using a piece of your craft supplies (stamp, tool, stencil…) that you have never used before!
Give it a new chance or a beautiful beginning in the new year.
Maybe you even got some supplies for Christmas? Or, like in my case, the weeks before Christmas were just too busy to try out your new things.

A couple of months back I went to visit a craft fair with one of my best friends. I bought a couple of stamps and a few other crafty items but still haven't had the chance to use some of them. This angel stamp is one of them and this challenge is the perfect chance to showcase its beauty. The stamp is by Carabelle Studio and its called 'An Angel To Love'. I have wanted this stamp set for a long time and was glad when I finally managed to get it at the show.
I started off by creating a background using oxides and spraying water to get the effects I wanted. I then stamped the angel and the wings onto smooth white card and coloured the image using alcohol markers and metallic watercolour paints. Once dry I cut out the image and the wings then arranged them onto my background. I doodled a border around the card and added a few hearts on strings. To finish it off I have added a sentiment and a few gems.

 I hope you enjoyed my take on this weeks challenge. Show us some of your creations and don't forget to share on the Daring Cardmakers blog.
